Made in Alaska WorkshopWhat a great opportunity for Seldovians!  A free workshop for business owners and marketers will be hosted in the Seldovia Conference Center at the ATC Building.  This is a fantastic chance to get great insight into marketing and promoting your business or service from those who know!
I had a chance to visit with Bill Webb about the program and the services his consulting firm will be providing at this upcoming event!
Gazette: Tell me more about your company and your mission?  How are you funded so that you can travel and support independent entrepreneurs throughout the state?
Bill:  Made in Alaska is a State of Alaska program, www.madeinalaska.org established in law and funded by the Department of Commerce.  Our annual budget is $108,000.  Webb’s Consulting & Management Services, Inc. is under contract to operate the program and has done so since 1999.  We put on five workshops each year.  One is always in Anchorage and the other four in different Alaska cities.
Gazette:  Will you be the one here in Seldovia teaching the class?
Bill:  Presenters in Seldovia this year will be Bill Webb and Dana Reese.  Bill is president of Webb’s Consulting & Management Services, Inc. as well as Program Continue Reading

Homer Electric Association (HEA) is accepting nominations from members interested in running for a seat on the cooperative’s Board of Directors.

The cooperative’s Board is made up of nine directors, three from each of the three districts that make up the service area.

This year, the District 1 (Kenai-Nikiski-parts of Soldotna) seat held by Kenai resident Kelly Bookey will be on the ballot. In District 2 (Soldotna-Sterling-Kasilof area) the seat currently held by Sterling resident Dick Waisanen will be up for election. In District 3 (Kasilof-Homer-Seldovia area), HEA members will vote for the seat currently held by Don Seelinger of Seldovia.

HEA directors are elected by district, with members voting only for the director in their respective district.

Members interested in being on the ballot must fill out a Candidacy Packet that requires the candidate to gather at least 15 signatures from current HEA members that live in the district where the candidate resides. The Candidacy Packet is available at HEA offices in Kenai and Homer and online at www.homerelectric.com

The deadline to submit the Candidacy Packet is 5 PM on February 28, 2014.  Completed packets can be dropped off at either the Kenai or Homer HEA office.

Ballots will be mailed out to HEA members on March 28, 2014, and the results will be tabulated and announced at the Annual Meeting on May 1, 2014, at the Soldotna High School. .

Seldovia’s Linwood Grill Open Every Day

LinwoodWinterEveWe are thankful to report that the Linwood Bar and Grill has extended their dining room hours from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Sundays through Thursdays and on Friday and Saturdays you will find the Grill open from 4:00pm to 9:00pm for your dining pleasure!

With the Tidepool Cafe closed for a few winter months, this comes as great news!  So, even though you cannot eat out for lunch in Seldovia at the moment – a late lunch – or “Lunner”- is available EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK!  Thanks Stephanie!

So, gather up your crew and head on down to the Linwood for a burger, pizza or one of the homemade style meals!   Liza is in the kitchen and doing a great job of serving up homemade fries, fresh rolls and great Seldovia cooking!  So, besides going out for a glass of wine or a beer with a friend – stop by and treat yourself to dinner out in Seldovia!

To those with families, there is a “smoking room”, separate from the main dining area, and Stephanie has done a nice job of making the decor more family friendly – so support this local business who is working hard to provide a dining option for Seldovia – and bring the family in!
