Gear up for the SRSA Annual Outdoor Gear Swap!

| November 9, 2013 | 0 Comments

by Damara Burnett

In anticipation of the winter season, the SRSA will be collecting quality, used outdoor gear to be resold at our annual gear swap. This is a great opportunity to sell outdoor recreation items you no longer use . . . . and perhaps pick up something you’ve always wanted! Clean out your closets and pass around some quality outdoor gear to other Seldovians. Winter recreation items will be in high demand (skis, snowboards, skates, boots, coats, sleds) but other items, like camping and fishing gear, are always quickly snagged up!

OutdoorGearSwap

How does the swap work? Sellers drop off their gear at the Sea Otter Community Center BEFORE the swap, naming their price on each item. Volunteers take care of the rest. Money and unsold gear can be picked up after 3pm on the day of the swap. (Sellers can choose to keep their profits or donate to the SRSA.)

Two dates to drop off gear: Saturday, November 23rd & 30th from 11-4

Annual Outdoor Gear Swap: SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7th @ 11:00 am

A chili and cornbread lunch will also be available at the Swap, with all proceeds to benefit Craig Barnard’s Learn-to-Ski program for kids. (SNACKS!!)

by Roberta Collier

The Dimond Center Hotel is producing a few new commercials and we would love to bring in some Seldovia talent!   If you are interested, and  planning to be in town around mid November, (exact date to be determined) we’d like to hear from you!  It will be an unpaid casting, and we are sure to work with people on lodging arrangements for the night of production.     We realize there would be a logistical issue getting Seldovia residents able to participate, which is why we elected to get this notice out as soon possible so folks would have time to plan!

If you are interested, please let us know as soon as possible.   We will work with you as specific dates as confirmed.

There’s a New Girl in Town – Welcome Kaya Della Baines!

| October 30, 2013 | 0 Comments

Baby KayaSeldovia welcomes baby Kaya Della Baines, who was born in Homer on Sunday, October 13 at 10:28 p.m.   She weighed eight pounds, 10 ounces.

Kaya’s parents are Darin and Jennifer Baines of Seldovia.  Her maternal grandparents are Frank and Shelby Beaudry of Canby, Oregon, and paternal grandparents are the late Dan and Della Baines.   Kaya’s great-grandparents are Rod and Sunni Hilts of Seldovia, and Velma Baines of Sitka.

I had a chance to ask Jennifer, the new mom, a few questions about becoming a family – and she wanted to share these thoughts with the community of Seldovia.

Gazette:  The name Della is in honor of Kaya’s late grandmother, Darin’s mom, where does the name Kaya come from? Continue Reading
