In spite of the weather – the folks were out in full color, action and costumes!  There were many creative parade participants this year – some of which are showcased below!

Please allow time to load, as there are more than 70 photos – so depending on your connection, it may take a few minutes – be patient, it is worth the wait!  Also – once you open the journal – you will be able to click a photo and either scroll through the photos on your own full size or view a slide show! Enjoy!

Sorry for the super delayed photo story about the fabulous Chainsaw Exhibition 2012!

Here is a great combination of photos – from beginning to end – almost like you were there!  You can click here or on the image to the left to open the link for the large photo story!  Another great feature of this format is that once you click on the image – you can click on any photo in the layout and it will open a slide show format, and you can view all the photos at your own pace in full size! (Depending on the size of your screen, some of the text on the left side may not be visible – but the “whole” story and more is below!  Also, please note that there are a lot of photos and may take a few minutes to load, depending on your Internet speed.)

This Memorial Day chainsaw competition was a little different from the previous years.  Due to a myriad of scheduling conflicts (a move out-of-state, opening a new gallery, moving a shop/workshop across town, building a home, etc.) many carvers weren’t able to make it to our event this year.

We were thankful that three great carvers joined us this summer, Ben & Silas Firth (2nd year), Jimmy Kitchens & Carisa Curtis (5th year) and Rob Younkins & Deveyn LaCroix (3rd year)!

Due to the small participant size, we modified the event to be an exhibition, Continue Reading

Main Street in Bloom!

by Suzie Stranik

The happy new hanging baskets along Main Street went up last Sunday thanks to Jerry Stranik with a little help from a friend, Frankie Kashevaroff.   The baskets were donated to the City of Seldovia by Cathy and Dee Calvin of  Forget-me-Not nursery of Indian, AK!

Suzie Stranik did the necessary permission requests and the Chamber of Commerce purchased the brackets.  Peter Elvsaas with Seldovia Expeditors brought them down the highway at no charge!  And best of all, Shad Haller has promised that the Seldovia Fire Dept will keep them watered!   Suzie hopes the loosely formed garden club will help with dead heading during the summer to keep them blooming.  A big round of thanks to all who lent a hand to make our Main Street blossom!

Do You Want to Buy a Masterpiece?

This Memorial Day weekend, we have three very talented carvers creating beautiful masterpieces from our rugged local spruce!

This is the 7th Annual Chainsaw event in Seldovia!  We are blessed to have over 35 masterpieces about town for our community’s enjoyment!  Many folks have made trips specifically to Seldovia to visit these creative works of art!  Seldovia has become an “Outdoor museum” of sorts – with no admission – just the effort of getting across the bay.

You may Click Here or click on the poster at the top left to see “Where they are now?”  which shows you the locations of all the carvings created in Seldovia since 2006.

This year, we are doing something a little bit different.

Every year, up until now, the Seldovia Chamber of Commerce had an agreement to retain the masterpiece carvings here in the city of Seldovia.  Only Continue Reading
