OtterChampionsAfter three days of competition – the Seldovia Sea Otters boys basketball team pulled off an amazing victory against their great opponent Nikolaevsk, with a final score of 51 Seldovia, 47 Nikolaevsk.

I had the chance to catch up with Coach Mark Janes around 12:18am on Saturday morning – and no, the players hadn’t hit the hay quite yet!  Friday night, a BIG win, everyone was pretty amped!  Mark took a minute to talk with me from the Kenai Peninsula College campus where our Otters are being hosted during the regional tournament.   The teams are loving being able to stay on the campus, getting a little taste of college life, touring the campus, hanging out a bit with college students and enjoying the comforts of apartment living.  Boys are all on one floor “down below” and the girls are on an upper floor, but they do tend to all get together in the lounge areas to play video games, eat and visit on their off time.  Thanks KPC for offering such a great place to stay at a special rate for our teams!

Looking back at the most recent home games, the coach mentioned that the guys really didn’t play to their full potential. In preparation for this tournament they realized that they had to “Play hard from A to Z, they had to do more than show Continue Reading

Season Update

BoyBasketballTeamPhotoThe Sea Otter Boys High School Basketball Team is entering the homestretch of the regular season with only 5 games remaining out of our 20 game season. These games are going to be the most important and will determine the seeding at our regional tournament. We have an overall record of 9 wins and 6 losses and within our region we are 6 and 0, placing us behind a Nikolaevsk team that we play twice in the next 2 weeks.

Screen Shot 2014-02-19 at 10.06.06 PMAll of our loses come from games with bigger schools. When putting together our schedule last year, I scheduled some tough competition against 3A varsity and 4A JV squads early in the season. I wanted to get the Otters exposure to the next level of basketball competition and have them strive to match it. They have been great Continue Reading

Games Start Today at 11:30am

| February 8, 2014 | 0 Comments

Basketball games are on today – starting at 11:30am!  Lumen Christi made it in this morning on the Rainbow Connection, and with the help of MANY drivers, we were able to get the team in from Jakolof Bay in time to start the first game at 11:30am this morning, Lumen Christi vs. Nanwalek!

Seldovia Girls team will play Lumen Christi Girls around 12:30 or so, and the Seldovia Boys will be playing Lumen Christi following the girls game!   Last night was a great game, with good food, lots of folks who battled the crazy deep snow to get there, and the Seldovia Boys team won the game against Nanwalek!

Stop by and support the OTTERS!  See you there!
