    Jan,
A friend just asked me about my time in Seldovia and I found myself a bit nostalgic, searching the website for photos and familiar places, I have thought of your mom so many times and how gracious she was when I found myself suddenly plunked in Seldovia in 1976. She is the one who told me I didn’t need to buy a dryer for my baby’s diapers….just freeze dry the diapers on a line! (I got the dryer!). Esther provided me with all the encouragement I needed as a new mother. She became my mom away from my own. We were blessed to share that first Christmas with your mom and dad, plus all the additional potlucks in the following years. I wish I had been able to accept the Alaskan experience the way she did. I’m so sorry to hear that she is gone, but am certain that Seldovia will never forget the grace and beauty she added by her presence. She was a classy addition to the community and I remember her so fondly.
Love you you and your family,
    Molly Sue

Just found out today of Esther’s passing. My sincere condolences to her family. I enjoyed her and Tuggle’s friendship so much when I lived in Seldovia in the early 60′s. Have made her recipe for lemon cake many times.

Sunsets were my mom’s favorite part of the day and she always took time to watch them, commenting on how beautiful they were…so this picture is so very appropriate! Thank you Jenny. I would like to leave a passage that my mom read the last day she was here with me from a small book of faith that she read each and every day!

“Find Me in the midst of a maelstrom. Sometimes events whirl around you so quickly that they become a blur. Whisper My Name in recognition that I am still with you. Without skipping a beat in the activities that occupy you, you find strength and Peace through praying My Name. Later, when the happenings have run their course, you can talk with Me more fully.
Accept each day just as it comes to you. Do not waste your time and energy wishing for a different set of circumstances. Instead, trust Me enough to yeild to My design and purposes. Remember that nothing can separate you from My loving Presence; you are Mine.” from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.

My mom passed from series of seizures that the Dr’s couldnt get under control, never coming back to us, so we let her go peacefully to be w/my Dad, Uncle Pierre and all the others that were waiting for her! I hope that next summer we will be able to have a Celebration of Life in the new pavilion that she admired so much, for her and my Uncle Pierre!!
