Dear Susan B. English School Community,

We are pleased to announce that Diane Maples has been selected as the new Principal/Teacher of Susan B. English. Diane brings a wealth of experience and a student-centered approach that aligns closely with the values of our school and community.

Diane is a dynamic and accomplished educator who has served in a variety of leadership roles across Alaska. Most recently, she has been the Principal/Teacher at Nikolaevsk School and has served as CTE Director for the Kodiak Island Borough School District. Her past roles include assistant principal, program coordinator, and statewide coordinator for Alaska Tech Prep. Diane is known for her innovative work in career and technical education, trauma-informed practices, and inclusive teaching.

Beyond her professional qualifications, Diane is deeply committed to supporting students and families. She has served as a foster parent, youth team leader in humanitarian missions, and group home worker, and she brings a deep understanding of how to build trusting relationships in close-knit communities.

Ms. Maples is planning to travel to Seldovia during the week of May 5 (weather permitting) to meet with families—details will be shared once confirmed. We hope you’ll join us in welcoming Diane to the Seldovia community. We’re excited about the future of Susan B. English School with her at the helm.

Clayton
