1525318_10201226280847625_1094041617_nOur students from SBE are traveling today – aboard the M/V Aurora from Whittier to Cordova for the 32nd Annual Cordova Tip Off Tourney!  Along with the Seldovia Sea Otters, Unalaska and Nikiski will also be competing at the tournament this year.    This will be a fun 7 hour trip as they get “rested up” for their first games this evening, starting at 7:30pm when our Seldovia Sea Otter girls play Cordova’ Wolverines.  The boys will play right after – around 9:00pm, also against Cordova.

BoyBasketballTeamPhotoThanks to Cordova, we will all be able to watch all the action LIVE at asln.net, ctcak.net or on your roku’s. Visit asln.net/roku to add the channel.

We were all able to enjoy the last games from home, as Mark Janes and the team worked to broadcast the two games from Anchorage – but Cordova will actually have an announcer for the games – so it is going to be official!!

So, take a moment today – to get your technology all figured out so that you can enjoy the games this evening – LIVE from Cordova!!!

GOOD LUCK SELDOVIA SEA OTTERS!

TONIGHT – Susan B. English Students Develop Exhibit for the Seldovia Museum

 Opening Reception This Tuesday

The Seldovia Museum is excited to announce its first community-curated exhibit: “The Native Cultures of Alaska”. Most of the pieces in the exhibit were designed and crafted by the students of Mrs. Bornheimer’s K-5 class at Susan B. English School. The lone exception is a traditional artifact loaned to the Seldovia Museum for the exhibit by Ben Botero. The students also created all of the exhibit labels.

The exhibit explores various aspects of the major Alaska Native cultures, with different students exploring topics ranging from food to dress, housing and spiritual beliefs. Students researched their topics and used what they learned to create displays showing the differences and similarities between the traditional cultures of the Great Land.

The Seldovia Museum will host an opening reception for the exhibit this Tuesday evening, November 19 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. The public is invited to come and meet the exhibitors, who will be available to discuss their work. Light refreshments will be provided.

This is also a great opportunity to see the exhibit “Each Time I Remember, I Make a Doll”, SVT’s collection of 24 Alaska Native dolls representing work by some of the most well-known doll-makers in Alaska.

The student’s exhibit will be on display through mid-December, and is the first of what the Seldovia Museum staff hopes will be a series of temporary exhibits developed with the help of members of the Seldovia community throughout the year. The Seldovia Museum is now open year-round. Winter hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm, and the Museum can also be opened by special request during regular SVT business hours. The Visitor Center portion of the Museum is always available to the public during business hours.

Come to the Seldovia Museum this Tuesday evening between 6:30 – 7:30, enjoy some refreshments and meet our young artists!
